listening to npr this am and was amused by all the uproar about howard dean's concession speech in iowa. its like people freak out because he got passionate and yelled and ranted and screamed. i dont no if dean is the right guy for the white house but dont we want a person in there who is passionate about things and lets it come out, but apparently thats not presidential. maybe a reserved, controlled unemotional person is better. not sure but for me i rather have a person that is willing to get passionate in public.

jason had a post about leadership this am and it starting me thinking about followership. a leader is nothing without followers. maybe we should be putting more emphasis on training people how to follow than lead. here is a quote from Baldesar Castiglione's book, The Courtier written in 1516,

“I think the aim of the perfect courtier is so to win for himself the favor and mind of the
prince whom he serves that he may be able to tell him, and always will tell him, the truth
about everything he needs to know, without fear or risk of displeasing him; and that when
he sees the mind of the prince inclined to a wrong action, he may dare to oppose him and
in a gentle manner avail himself of the favor acquired by his good accomplishments, so as
to dissuade him of every evil intent and bring him to the path of virtue.”

sydney is starting to look pregnant. for the last few weeks she has been worried about not looking pregnant just fat, she has this glow, the glow of pregnancy, she just looks beautiful. i still laugh when i ponder her being with child and rejoice and praise God for it. its just so cool to be experiencing this at this time of life. i know many people who are 43 and without kids they are grown and gone. i love the way my life is heading and get excited when i think about what is to come. so many things in the works. the next few months will be full of changes in my life and i think its just cool to be here.

went to a gathering this weekend in norwood ohio and had a great time. listened and learned and hungout with people doing and being the church. two thing people said stick in my mind the first was something my wife said during a group discussion about community and love. she said community can tend to be self focused but love can never be it must be outward or it doesnt happen. the second was something jim henderson said, live simply and do what you love, i realized i am doing that having 12 kids and one on the way and being married to sydney and trying to love and serve God.

also i am attempting to start a new venture that would combine campus minstry and church planting around the university of cincinnati. pray for me that i will have a clear idea of what it should be and that ot would be what God wants. i am trying to get some financial support so i can spend some more time doing it. i will keep you posted
